Following intelligence report that the Islamic sect,  Boko Haram, had concluded plans to bomb some states in the Niger Delta, South-East and South-West geo-political zones, militants in the Niger Delta, have volunteered to team up  with the security agencies, especially the armed forces to repel the rebellious group.

Spokesman of the militants under the aegis of Niger Delta Liberation Force, NDLF, “Captain” Mark Anthony, in a statement, Tuesday, said the Israeli forces contracted by the government cannot provide adequate security.

He volunteered special security services for President Goodluck Jonathan and members of his immediate family because of the precarious security situation in the country.

The group which warned Boko Haram members  to steer clear of Niger-Delta said: “If they ignore this warning, the counter reaction will be disastrous.

“We offer on behalf of the good people of Niger Delta and Nigerians  to partner with the security forces, especially the army to give voluntary security services to President Jonathan and his immediate family over the precarious security situation created by the Islamic sect whose suicide bombings in Abuja and other cities in the country had created total insecurity.”

“This call for partnership becomes expedient, especially with the porous security network and backstabbing at high security quarters, which gave the feeling that the life of the President and his immediate family members is at risk,” the statement added.

A female student of the Abia State University, South Eastern Nigeria was gang raped by five boys of the same institution.

The rape incident happened on Tuesday, August 16, 2011.

These boys raped this girl, recorded it, passed it round their friends, who then passed it round ABSU campus.

According to source, her offence was that she supposedly insulted one of the boys.

The rape video lasted for about an hour, the girl screamed for help, but no one was there to rescue her.

Some of the names mentioned in the video include Uchenna, Wisdom and Chigbo, who is supposedly doing his Industrial Attachment (IT).

How do we ensure that the perpetrators of this crime get the punishment that they deserve?

I have the video…one hour of it on my laptop, and 10 minutes of it on my phone…but the rape was more than an hour, she went through this ordeal for several hours. Uploading this video online is not an option, but I want people who can do something about this to see it.

These boys can’t get away with this. Please if there’s any Women Rights Group, police, lawyers, journalists, who can take this up, please contact me; I will bring the video to you, wherever you are or send via email.

The Abia State Governor, Dr Theodore Orji, the Abia State University authorities and Nigeria’s Police Force must rise up and bring the culprits to book.

And whoever you rapists are; you don’t mess with God’s creation. The God I serve will never let you get away with this. HE is coming after you! Just watch! You bastard animals!…

Here is a comment made by a twitter user: “Rape isn’t a crime, its surprise sex”

Tim Berners-Lee

It was August 6, 1991, at a CERN facility in the Swiss Alps, when 36-year-old physicist Tim Berners-Lee published the first-ever website. It was, not surprisingly, a pretty basic one — according to CERN:

Info.cern.ch was the address of the world’s first-ever web site and web server, running on a NeXT computer at CERN. The first web page address washttp://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html, which centred on information regarding the WWW project. Visitors could learn more about hypertext, technical details for creating their own webpage, and even an explanation on how to search the Web for information. There are no screenshots of this original page and, in any case, changes were made daily to the information available on the page as the WWW project developed. You may find a later copy(1992) on the World Wide Web Consortium website.

Of course, the only people who actually had web browser software were Berners-Lee and his colleagues at CERN, so the world at large remained almost entirely ignorant of the momentous event that had just taken place. Gradually installations of web servers and the use of web browsers spread, but it really wasn’t until 1993, when the Mosaic browser was released, that the technology really achieved serious momentum.

In 1994, Berners-Lee founded the World Wide Web Consortium (often referred to as “W3C”) at MIT in order to create standards for the web to ensure that different websites would all work the same way. Berners-Lee, now 56, is still the director of the W3C, in addition to several other positions he holds. While there are and surely always will be some deviations from the standards by many websites and browsers, it’s not a stretch to say that the web as we know it would probably not exist if not for the W3C’s guidance.

Tim Berners-Lee’s NeXT at CERN: The first-ever web server, browser, and editor.

It can be hard now, even for many of us who regularly used the Internet before there was a World Wide Web, to remember that there was a time when the two terms weren’t considered nearly synonymous by the general public. Of course, that’s partly because, before the proliferation of websites that followed Mosaic’s release (and for some time thereafter), most members of the general public didn’t have the least idea that the Internet even existed.

And it’s nigh-impossible to conceive of just how different the world would be today were it not for the event of twenty years ago today. Heck, you’d probably have to go to comp.wired.geekdad on Usenet to read this blog.

So please join us in saying “Happy birthday!” to the World Wide Web! At the rate things change in the world of technology, I can scarcely imagine what it’ll look like when twenty more years have passed. It should be fun finding out.
